Hardening their stand, authorities in the UAE have decided to deport some of the workers, mostly Indians, who are staging a strike in Dubai against "ill treatment" meted out to them by their employers and detained seven of them.

Officials of the Indian consulate, who are mediating in the row, were told by the local authorities that a few of the workers are to be deported while seven labourers have been detained.

Local authorities are to hold high-level talks on Saturday with the management, the workers and Indian officials.

Indian Consul-General Yash Sinha will be attending the talks where the head of the Dubai Immigration department will also be present.

Indian consulate officials say that they have told the workers not to take the law into their own hands and follow proper mechanism like approaching the local authorities or the Consulate to bring in their demands.

Officials from the Indian consulate visited the workers at their labour camp. "The workers gave a list of their grievances to us. We are trying to find an amicable solution," they added.
