In a shocking incident, a 24-year-old brilliant student from Odisha studying in Boston University in the USA has been murdered by an unidentified person, who allegedly shot him in the head and legs.
The body of K Seshadri Rao, the student, was found near an apartment in Allston Street, about one and a half kilometres from the university campus, on Thursday.
His father K Sudhakar Rao, manager in Utkal Gramya Bank in Jeypore in Koraput district (about 600 km southwest of Bhubaneswar), was intimated about the tragic incident by the Indian Embassy in USA and the dean of Boston University.
Seshadri’s body is expected to reach Bhubaneswar by air on Monday.
Condemning the incident, Odisha chief minister said: “I am deeply shocked by the brutal and savage killing of the young man studying in Boston. This is absolutely barbaric and horrible.”
“My son did not have enmity or differences with anyone nor did he have any bad habits. I cannot imagine he could be killed by anyone like this,” said a shocked Rao, adding that had talked over telephone with Seshadri on Wednesday.
Rao said his son had been very good at studies throughout his career and he had received an offer from a company in US to do an internship.
After completing his class 9 and class 10, Seshadri pursued higher studies in Steward Science College, Cuttack and then graduated in electrical and electronic engineering from National Institute of Technology, Karnataka.

After graduating from NIT, Seshadri joined the faculty in a Bhubaneswar based private university for some time before moving to Boston University in August 2011 as a non-sponsored candidate in Graduate School of Management, where he pursued an MBA course in treasury and management.
Seshadri, who was supposed to complete the course in May this year, was sharing an accommodation with three more students in Allston Street.
For his course Rao had taken a study loan of Rs15 lakh and arrange another Rs10 lakhs from relatives to finance Seshadri’s study.
Besides Seshadri, Rao has another younger son who studies in the National Institute of Science Education and Research here.
