A truck cabin that tilted into his chest in a freak accident crushed Shaikh Mohammad Jani, a worker in the Bahraini company AA Bin Hindi, to death.

Though the incident took place on April 22 morning, company officials did not inform the Indian embassy in Bahrain about it, the Indian community members said.

Jani was working at the company's workshop at Al Ma'ameer when the accident took place. The Indian community members said that the worker's chest had been crushed by the impact of the falling truck cabin in the automotive division of the company.

He later died in the Salmaniya Medical Complex.

Jani, a resident of Mumbai and originally hailing from Hyderabad, had been working with the company for three years. He had been in Bahrain since 1998. He leaves behind his wife, four children and his aged parents.

Bahrain's ministries of interior and labour as well as the company have now started investigations into the incident.

There are over 130,000 Indians in Bahrain, many of whom work on contracts.
