Personal commitments or sheer laziness may have kept her away from the Rajpath on Thursday, but she is sure proud to be an Indian and believes in the Republic Day parade.
The Hindustan Times-CNN-IBN State of the Nation survey, conducted by the CSDS, found that 52 per cent of the respondents, from across the country and across all age groups, believe the parade is a symbol of national pride.
More than the percentage, the finding shows that we may grumble over the huge cost of the parade, but our pride lies in the country's military might: the soldier and the machine. The percentage of respondents who believe the parade is a waste of resources is 7 -- just two percentage ahead of those who did not have an opinion.
The survey also reveals that 46 per cent of Indians have seen the parade, no matter what. It is another thing though that just 5 per cent of them have actually been there. The rest chose the easier way -- watch the parade on TV. The reason, perhaps, is the close camera shots. Only 18 per cent know about the parade but have not seen it.
