According to media reports in Suva, the body of Nileshni Lata Singh was found in a drain near her home in Lynbroook area of Melbourne on Saturday, hours after her family in Fiji celebrated her 19th birthday.

The body was seen lying in the middle of the road by a passerby. The woman's husband, Amitesh Bali Jagroop, 23, has reportedly been charged for the murder. He is in police custody and awaiting court appearance.

Nileshni had married Jagroop, with whom she had a long time affair, and migrated to Australia a few months ago, her family members were quoted as saying.

"My sister and Amitesh had their legal marriage ceremony on June 15 last year and she migrated to Australia on February 19 this year. Her husband had come to take her with him and they were very much in love and happy," the Fiji Times quoted the victim's elder sister Sanjeshni Singh as saying.

"It was Nileshni's 19th birthday on Friday and we spoke for more than an hour but there was nothing in her voice that indicated there was a problem," she added.

Her family is making arrangements to fly the body back to Fiji from Australia.

Nileshni was reportedly last seen alive when she arrived at her house after finishing work at a local fast food outlet.
