Indonesian passenger plane missing

Boeing 737-400, belonging to Adam Air with 102 onboard, loses contact after it left E Java's Surabaya for Sulawesi.

A Boeing 737-400 aeroplane with 102 passengers on board went missing in eastern Indonesia on Monday afternoon, a rescue official said.

The plane, belonging to Indonesian private airline Adam Air, left the East Javan capital Surabaya for Makassar in South Sulawesi and Manado, the provincial capital of North Sulawesi, according to an official at the Indonesian national search and rescue agency.

"We have reports that the plane lost contact at about 3 pm," he said, adding that the plane was scheduled to arrive at Manado's Sam Ratulangi airport at 4 pm.

The plane was carrying 96 passengers and a crew of six.
