A ONE-AND-A-HALF year old girl was killed while her mother was injured when a wall of their kutcha house in Bairagarh collapsed over them in the afternoon due to the heavy rains and squall.
According to Bairagarh police, the deceased girl, Varsha daughter of Pradeep Thakur (25), and her mother Rani were sleeping inside their kutcha house in the Betagaon area at about 3.30 pm. At that time heavy rains accompanied with high-speed winds lashed the town.
One of the walls of the house collapsed and fell over the sleeping mother and daughter. Pradeep Thakur, who runs a tea-stall in the area, was away at work. He rushed back home and took his wife and daughter to the hospital. Someone had already informed the police and it reached the spot. Doctors at the hospital declared Varsha as brought dead while Rani was admitted for treatment.
