Inflation forces another meet of Govt panel on Tuesday

As per Commerce and Industry Minister Kamal Nath, the Cabinet Committe on Prices is expected to meet to discuss more measures to further curb rising prices of essential items, including steel.

The Cabinet Committee on Prices (CCP) is expected to meet on Tuesday to discuss measures to further curb rising prices of essential items, including steel, Commerce and Industry Minister Kamal Nath said in New Delhi on Saturday.

"The CCP is expected to meet next Tuesday and the government might take up the issue of steel price rise," Kamal Nath said on the sidelines of a conference.

"We need to also address issues to ease supply side constraints."

The finance ministry is also currently reviewing a host of options such as reducing duty on several steel products, officials said.

In order to control the inflation that has hit a 41-month high of 7.41 per cent in the week ended March 29, the government has announced steps like banning export of cement and withdrawal of incentives on steel exports.
