ELECTRICITY PLAYED spoilsport at the Green Gas Ltd (GGL) launch of the much-awaited Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) distribution at its mother station at Amausi here on Saturday.
The company had, on Friday, burnt mid-night oil preparing for dispensing CNG to vehicles from Saturday morning. The plans went kaput with no electricity for almost the entire day due to some defect in the feeding transformer in the area.
It was only after the company officials arranged a generator set late in the evening that distribution of the fuel could start.
A few Bajaj auto-rickshaws fitted with CNG kits did get the fuel in the evening.
“No-availability of electricity from 5.30 am till evening disturbed our plans. But things will be on track from Sunday,” said GGL Managing Director, JK Singh Tewatia. He said CNG was available at the rate of Rs 25 per kg, including trade tax. Mileage of CNG vehicles was much more than those of the petrol/diesel vehicles.
He said the Company had sufficient CNG to meet daily requirement but the problem was that vehicles were not yet ready in the city. “We hope now, when we have made CNG available, people will get their diesel/petrol vehicles retrofitted with CNG kits,” he said adding that the company expected Telco to purchase around 2500 kg of CNG every month. At present Telco gets the fuel from Delhi, he added.
The GGL, a joint venture of Gas Authority of India Ltd (GAIL) and the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) plans to open half a dozen daughter boosters (retail outlets) of CNG in various parts of the city within next few months.
