France's Sebastien Grosjean has been forced to pull out of the opening singles tie of the Davis Cup quarter-final against Russia because of back pain.
Arnaud Clement has been called in to replace Grosjean in the match against Nikolay Davydenko with French number one Richard Gasquet playing the other singles tie.
Grosjean has been suffering from a stiff back for the past week, and France captain Guy Forget said that he could play in Sunday's second singles if he had recovered in time.
Clement will play the doubles alongside Mickael Llodra.
The tie will be played on an indoor carpet surface at the Palais des Sports in the southwestern French town of Pau.
Russia lead France 3-2 in previous meetings including their last two ties.
Russian won 3-2 in the quarter-finals in Moscow last year and took the title at the expense of the French in 2002 by the same scoreline in Paris.
