Innovation in teaching must

ALLAHABAD UNIVERSITY (AU) vice-chancellor Prof Rajen Harshe said a good teacher is one who can recognise the talent of students and knows how to deal with his doubts and problems and help him become confident and self-reliant. He was speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural function of a two-day national seminar on 'Building Motives for Student Participation in Best Practices' that got under way at Sadanlal Sanwaldas Khanna Girls' Degree College on Saturday.

He was speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural function of a two-day national seminar on 'Building Motives for Student Participation in Best Practices' that got under way at Sadanlal Sanwaldas Khanna Girls' Degree College on Saturday.

The seminar, with a special focus on women education in urban area, is being hosted by the college in collaboration with the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).

Addressing the participants, Prof Harshe urged the teachers to adopt a more interactive approach in teaching and expressed hope that the two-day meet significantly contribute in improving the education system and the teaching practices.

Presiding over the function, former Chief Justice RS Dhawan stressed on the need for bringing about a qualitative improvement in the education system of the country and said that this can be achieved only when there is increased interaction between the students and the teachers. He said that women teachers should strive to be innovative in their teaching while dealing with female students.

Out the total six technical sessions of the seminar, the first and the second technical sessions were held on day one and in which a number of educationists presented their papers including Prof RS Pandey, Dr Shobha Srivastava and Prof KS Mishra. O day two of the seminar Prof PK Sahu, Prof Raghu Raj Singh and Prof Deepa Punetha will present their talks.

The valedictory session will begin at 3 pm on Sunday in which Central Information Commissioner Prof Om Prakash Kejriwal will deliver the valedictory address while Director Bharatiya Jnanpith Dr Prabhakar Shrotriya will preside over the proceedings. Director of GB Pant Social Science Research Institute Prof RC Tripathi will be the guest of honour.
