An insect was found in the green peas curry during lunch among the hundreds of volunteers who take food in the dinning hall. "I was told by fellow volunteers not eat here as an insect had been found in the curry," said one student.

The food control office, however, denied receiving any complaints. "We have not received any such complaint," said Vijay Singh.

Faridabad-based Gazal Caterer, which had the contract for the Games in Guwahati in 2007, has been awarded the contract this time around as well.

Rahul Khurana, managing director of the company, said, "Some people are trying to malign our reputation by indulging in such things. We take utmost care in preparing food for about 8,000 athletes and officials and 1,000 volunteers everyday."

Sources in the Games Coordination Committee said that Dolly Singh (54kg) lost her bronze medal in the residential wing of a sports complex. She then accused the Manipuri boxer of stealing her medal.

The Manipuri boxer got so depressed that she had to be rushed to the Tata Main Hospital, where she was kept under observation.
