Insurance cover for poll staff

In a scheme, 1.90 lakh poll personnel were covered by insurance with maximum amount of Rs ten lakh in the event of their deaths.

In a novel scheme, 1.90 lakh poll personnel, including security men, were today covered by insurance with maximum amount of Rs ten lakh in the event of death or losing two vital body parts.

The Jharkhand Election Commission, under the auspices of ICICI, signed a memorandum of understanding with Lombar General Insurance, Chief Electoral Officer A K Pandey told a press conference here.

A cheque of Rs 1.10 crore was handed over to the representative of the insurance company, Mumbai, as premium.

Those who are covered included personnel of paramilitary force, Jharkhand armed police, district armed police, home guards, polling officials, presiding officials, counting officials, drivers and helpers of requisitioned vehicles and such people who have been entrusted with poll works by the Jharkhand Election Commission, Pandey said adding the coverage started from today and would be in place till May 16.
