Integrated efforts to meet power demand stressed

CHAIRMAN OF the Central Electricity Authority Rakesh Nath said here on Monday that the most challenging problem before the power sector was to keep a balance between demand and supply.

He was delivering the inaugural address of the two-day international conference on ‘Power System Operation in Deregulated Regime’ at Swatantrata Bhawan in Banaras Hindu University here on Monday.

The Electrical Engineering Department of the Institute of Technology, BHU, has organised the conference in collaboration with the National Power Training Institute and Powergrid Corporation of India Limited.

Rakesh Nath stressed the need for planning of power transmission at the national level to address the problem of power crisis. “Power transmission is a dynamic area and a periodical review is required to meet the changing demand of power supply at the national level”, he said.

He also dwelt upon the ultra mega power project initiative of the government in which power projects having 4,000 megawatt capacity will be installed at five places in the country.

The demand for power was increasing day-by-day, he said and stressed the need for an integrated effort by different wings of the power sector to meet the increasing demand for power.BHU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Panjab Singh presided over the function while IT Director Prof. SN Upadhyay delivered the welcome address. Member of Central Electricity Regulatory Commission Bhanu Bhushan, former chairman of Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission VS Allawadi and former chairman of Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission VK Sood also addressed the inaugural function.
