Internet cafe and PCO owners in Jaisalmer have been ordered to maintain a record on all international calls and internet messages sent after reports of "suspicious" people using e-mail and phone calls to send secret information outside the country.
Under a recent order by the district collector and magistrate Krisnakant Pathak, a register should be maintained for each and every international call and e-mail message sent from the district, including the caller's name and address.
Nearby tehsils like Pokharan and Fathehgarh also come under the order.
The serial number, telephone number, data, caller's name and the name of the person who is sending messages through e-mails will be recorded in the register, said sources on Tuesday.
The order came in the wake of reports that some suspicious people go to these cafes and PCOs where they send sensitive information outside the country, which is difficult to trace, the sources said.
A police officer of Sub-Inspector or Sub Divisional Officer rank will be authorised to go for routine check of these registers, sources said, adding that legal proceedings will be initiated against people who are not complying with the order.
