Congress on Friday, said Uttar Pradesh did not witness much investment compared to neighbouring Uttaranchal since investors were migrating to the hill state due to "deteriorating" law and order and power situation in Lucknow.
Raising the issue through an adjournment motion in the Legislative Council, Congress members Ranjit Singh Judeo and Naseeb Pathan alleged that deteriorating law and order and power situation were the main reasons behind migration of industries and investment to Uttaranchal.
Judeo said in the financial year 2004, the state witnessed investment proposals of Rs 14,000 crore, in 2005 it rose to Rs 33,000 crore and in the currest fiscal it was Rs 17,000 crore. But not much progress could be made on the ground.
In the same period, big business houses like Hero Honda, Telco, Bajaj, Mahindra, Birla have establised their industries in Uttaranchal, he said.
Refuting the allegations, Samajwadi Party leader Ram Saran Das said it was an attempt by Congress members to "malign the image" of the state government but all such attempts would be thwarted.
