FOLLOWING THE footsteps of Chhatrapati Sahu Ji Maharaj University (CSJMU), the UP Higher Secondary Education Board has issued directives to issue identity cards (I-Cards) to the teachers engaged in examination duty during the high school and intermediate examinations.
The I-cards will be issued to the invigilators just one week before the commencement of the examinations.
The teaching community feels that the Board has found them ‘unreliable’ for conducting examinations. The new system has also put the management of both the aided and self-financed institutions in a fix. The aided colleges are worried how could they engage non-teaching staff in the examination duty to meet the shortage of invigilators at their colleges while the self-financed institution are worried as how could they issue I-cards to the teachers who were appointed either on part-time basis or as guest lecturers. Once they were issued I-cards as per the rules of the Board they may claim regular appointment, they felt.
A few college principles, who supported the idea of issuing I-cards to the invigilators, said it was found that the management of the self-financing institutions engaged outsiders and even the fresh-pass outs of the college to conduct invigilation duty, which was not permitted under the laws of the Board.
Non-experienced teachers could not be assigned duties of sensitive nature. This practice had even brought bad name to the Board last year. In order to maintain quality, the Board has decided to issue I-cards to the invigilators so that none of the colleges ventured to appoint unqualified persons as invigilators.

{{/usCountry}}To facilitate the examinations in the district, about 253 examination centers were set up to accommodate 1,32,221 regular and private students of High School and the Intermediate examinations starting from March 6. About 8250 invigilators have been put into service to conduct the examinations.
Meanwhile, on the very first day of supplying the answer books to the examination centrs faced security problems. The district authorities failed to comply the GOs of transporting the answer books through safe vehicles.
