"Business interests have gained precedence over cricket", was his reply when asked about the controversy involving the Kochi IPL team with Union Minister of State from Kerala Sashi Tharoor prominently figuring in it.

He evaded a reply when asked if he thought Kerala would be losing a minister at the Centre as the fallout of the IPL controversy.

Tharoor was elected to Lok Sabha from Thiruvananthapuram on Congress ticket in his maiden electoral debut last year shortly after his return to India after severing the United Nations as Under Secretary General.
