IPS Assn to raise long-pending demands

WITH THE number of additional director generals (ADGs) shooting up to 38 in UP, the IPS Association plans to press for acceptance of its long pending demand of upgradation of the IG zone post to absorb ADGs and also open up some non-police departments for their positing at senior level.

The issue is likely to be taken up at the association meeting during the Police Week, to be held from November 23 to 25. The ADGs want respectable postings either in the police or some other departments, where there is involvement of the police like trade tax, excise, transport or jail. There is a feeling in the association that upgradation of the IG zone to ADG and DIG range to IG levels would considerably help in solving the problem and adequate work would be available to the senior officers. “There is a need of work content to these officers,” commented an office-bearer of the association. “It would also not carry any financial burden,” he added.

During DGP VKB Nair’s tenure, a committee was constituted to look into the matter. Though, Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav is favourably inclined to upgrade the posts on the pattern of Bihar and MP, fate of the committee report is not known. About the adjustment of 17 DIGs posted in range, there is a feeling that they could be given assignments in various police wings. “Of the total 85 DIGs, only 17 officers are in field and they can also be posted in non-DF (direct field) posts,” said a DG-level officer.
