The High Court (HC) on Thursday granted one week’s time to Joint Commissioner of Police (crime), Rakesh Maria to conclude inquiry against the Inspector General of Police MSEB, Hemant Nagrale filed by his wife Pratima alleging harassment.
Pratima had approached the high court in January seeking police protection alleging threat perception from her husband.
A division bench of Justice Bilal Nazki and Justice A.R. Joshi has asked Maria to conclude the inquiry and inform the HC within one week.
Maria had filed an affidavit last month stating that they were awaiting the medical reports of Pratima, who is allegedly a schizophrenic. Expressing displeasure, the court had observed that the complainant being a mental patient cannot be a
reason for not making inquiries against the complaints made by her.
Even Nagrale’s counsel Shirish Gupte had argued that Pratima was suffering from schizophrenia and that she had undergone treatment at Bombay hospital.
“She had made several complaints to the senior police officers, but no action has been taken on her complaints. Hence we approached the high court,” argued Pratima’s lawyer Gunaratna Sadawarte.
Pratima had alleged that her husband is mentally and physically harassing her. She has also given details of alleged misappropriate income and investments of Nagrale.
