The police have concluded it was a suicide but the officer’s son alleged that some seniors drove his father to end his life.

“My father took this extreme step because of the harassment he was facing ... from a few senior officers ...,” Suraj Kumar told mediapersons. He did not elaborate how the officer was being harassed and by whom.

Shimla district police chief R.M. Sharma said Jagjit Kumar, posted in Shimla as IGP (Railway and Traffic), shot himself in his temple at his residence here between 1 am and 1.30 am.

“We have received the post-mortem reports and it seems a clear case of suicidal death. The injury was caused by a single bullet fired from a 9mm pistol... his service weapon,” he said.

Sharma said Jagjit Kumar was suffering from problems allegedly because of his son. Sources said Kumar’s son had earlier been arrested in a car theft case in Delhi.
