Iran says will examine nuclear proposal

But Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki made it amply clear that the country won't suspend nuke enrichment.

Iran's foreign minister said on Saturday the Islamic republic would examine a proposal to ease a crisis over its nuclear programme but repeated there would be no suspension of uranium enrichment.

"Negotiations must be without preconditions. No condition for negotiations is acceptable, especially the condition that has been set," Manouchehr Mottaki told reporters.

The five permanent members of the Security Council plus Germany on Thursday agreed to offer Iran incentives and new talks but are insisting that Iran first suspend uranium enrichment -- work that could in theory be extended to military purposes.

Mottaki nevertheless said Iran "needed to examine these proposals" before giving its formal response.
