Iraqi Information Minister Mohammed Saeed Al-Sahaf said on Friday that Iraq had no plans to use chemical or biological weapons against invading US and British forces but threatened to use "non-conventional" methods.

Asked if Iraq would use weapons of mass destruction, Sahaf told a news conference: "No, not at all. But we will conduct a kind of martyrdom operations."

Iraq denies US and British accusations that it possesses weapons of mass destruction. But earlier in the news conference Sahaf said Iraq would "commit a non-conventional act", possibly on Friday night, against US forces who have seized Baghdad International Airport.

US troops have captured Baghdad airport with tanks and armoured units against almost no opposition from Iraqi forces, the ABC television network said on Friday.

On its Web site the network said its correspondent, Bob Schmidt, with the 3rd Infantry Division, was standing on the tarmac of Saddam International Airport when he filed his report.

"US forces encountered very little Iraqi resistance, said Schmidt, although some units of the 3rd Infantry Division did encounter scattered firing by Iraqi foot soldiers and men in pickups," the network said.
