Assistant General Manager (AGM) SK Rajput had suspended lineman Babulal on Friday, on charges of dereliction of duty. In protest against the decision, angry employees of the Bijlighar division resorted to a three-day work boycott.

All work in the substations falling under the Bijlighar Division has come to a standstill. Substations affected by the work boycott included Gwaltoli, Mayur Mill Khalwa, Cycle Market and La Touche Road substations. The work boycott call is being spearheaded under the banner of Powermen Joint Action Committee.

Leaders of the committee accused AGM SK Rajput of taking arbitrary action and suspending the lineman without valid reason.

Committee senior leader Vijay Tripathi condemned the suspension outright and questioned the power of the AGM. “As per KESCo rules an AGM cannot suspend a lineman. Only the MD has the power to suspend a lineman and no one else,” stated Tripathi.

“We have issued a warning to the KESCo management to revoke the suspension in three days or else, the work boycott confined to Bijlighar division at present would be extended to entire KESCo,” added Tripathi.

“Every now and then the AGM rakes up a controversy and employees have to suffer,” stated an employee.

Recently, Rajput had kicked up a controversy with traders at Somdatt Plaza. It was only intervention by senior officials of KESCo and traders that the matter could be resolved.

Members of the Committee pointed out that Rajput was manhandled by the corporator of Dadamai Guddu last Friday and the AGM vented his ire by suspending the lineman.

Members of the Action Committee are in no mood to hush up the matter and threatened that if the suspension is not revoked, then the work boycott would be extended to the entire KESCo.
