A gruelling exercise regime may have given the Madonna one of the most desired bodies in the industry, but it seems that even the Queen of pop cannot stop the ravages of time.

As she left her gym in St John's Wood, north London this week, Madonna was spotted carrying a Boots chemist bag filled with boxes of a pain-killing cream called Voltarol Emulgel P, which is so powerful that people suffering from rheumatism and arthritis swear by it. It is also used for sprains, strains, soft tissue injuries.

According to the instructions leaflet, the cream is used to "relieve pain and reduce inflammation and swelling in a number of painful local conditions affecting the joints, muscles, tendons and ligaments".

Madonna regularly puts herself through three-hour workouts which includes pilates and intensive weight training, as well as the "Gyrotonic Expansion System" - a rack-like contraption which stretches and strengthens the muscles-with the aim of making them longer and leaner.

"Women in their 40s should not undertake the same exercise as they did when they were younger, but of course they should still keep fit,” the Daily Mail quoted her, as saying.
