Udit Raj (Some merit to quotas, June 6) should realise that the reservation issue has become a major cause of growing casteism and social discrimination. The OBCs, SC and STs have become the new Brahmins. Nobody is against reservation per se. The issue is on deciding how much will be enough?

What of the NKC

There is no news on the state of the National Knowledge Commission (NKC) after the resignation of two of its most eminent members. That they bore the brunt of Arjun Singh’s ire while the Prime Minister kept quiet was unfortunate. If our ministers have no respect for the commission set up by the PM, and declare the reports presented by it as idle gossip, democracy in India is indeed in peril.

Brahma Chellaney in A dud in the manger (May 23) has made a timely exposure of the controversial management regarding the most crucial defence related issue. The decision to put the development of Agni III on the backburner is, indeed, very surprising. There is a definite merit in questioning the government’s hush-hush deal.
