ISBT at Narwal becomes partially functional

Congested roads in Jammu may soon be thing of the past as the concerned authorities have initiated the process of shifting the general bus stand located in heart of the city to interstate bus terminus (ISBT) Narwal on the outskirts of Jammu.

Congested roads in Jammu may soon be thing of the past as the concerned authorities have initiated the process of shifting the general bus stand located in heart of the city to interstate bus terminus (ISBT) Narwal on the outskirts of Jammu.

On the time frame for the shifting of the bus stand, IGP, traffic, Muneer Khan said, "The whole process of shifting the general bus stand to ISBT Narwal will be completed within the short span of time. The traffic police are on the job. All the buses coming from outside the state are being routed to ISBT, Narwal. Buses from outside the state will now arrive and depart from ISBT, Narwal. Moreover, we are complying with the directions of high court to decongest both Jammu and Srinagar.

"For passengers' convenience, at present we are allowing the inter-state buses to operate from the general bus stand only between 8pm and 8am. Though this relaxation is for short period", said Manmohan Singh SP Traffic Jammu.

When the buses plying within the state will be shifted to other location, SP Traffic said, "Shortly, the buses to Banihal viz, Kashmir, Udhampur, Katra will be shifted to newly built bus terminal at Kahanpur Nagrota. We are also envisaging constructing another bus terminal at old warehouse in Jammu for the buses coming from Rajouri and Poonch area. The shifting of bus stand will ease the traffic congestion of Jammu to a larger extent", he said.
