An internal circular was issued recently by the Mumbai police administration asking the city crime branch and the anti-terror cells (ATC) at police stations across the city to stay alert owing to the ongoing Iraq crisis.
The circular assumes significance in view of the appeal made by Iraq-based radical Sunni insurgent outfit, Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), to people across the world to join the global Jihad in establishing a Caliphet.
The circular, issued by the office of the Mumbai police commissioner, asks the ATC and the crime branch officials to keep an eye on missing persons in the age group of 17 to 23 years and to gather information about their disappearance.
The ATC officials, who have been allowed to stay away from routine police station work, have also been told to keep a tab on the profiles of such persons on social networking websites to get clarity on their antecedents and personal and social life.
Special checks have been asked to be conducted at important installations by these officials to check their security. The ATC and t he crime branch have also been instructed to crack down on the usage of stolen SIM cards and, in suspicious cases, to check the authenticity of the documents submitted to procure the card.
