Talking to mediapersons here on Thursday, the IG said, “The recent spate of attack by the IS in various parts of the world has made us susceptible on the International Border and Line of Control. The IS may support terror outfits, including LeT, JeM and HM, who are perpetrating terror in India under the patronage of Pakistan.”

Sharma added, “Till date, we have not seen any sign or input of the IS being present on the other side of the International Border. However, we have sensitised our (BSF) commanders on the ground. We are well-prepared to counter anything. But, the IS playing a role in future here cannot be ruled out.”

The IG informed that during the period from 2014 to October this year, numerous infiltration attempts were made.

“In the last year, the infiltration attempts from across the border have increased 100 times. As many as 45 bids were made to infiltrate terrorists inside our territory on the International Border,” added the IG.

“As far as intelligence reports, there is a presence of approximately 60-70 terrorists of various outfits across the IB at various launching bases and Pakistan villages,” said Sharma.

Sharma added, “The BSF would not be lowering its guards on the routes being followed by the infiltrators in Kathua, Samba and Jammu areas.”
