Mumbai police are probing an e-mail threat to Reserve Bank of India (RBI) governor Raghuram Rajan, allegedly made by an unidentified person with possible links to the terror outfit ISIS, media reports said on Thursday.
The DNA newspaper said Rajan received the e-mail in his official account from a gmail ID 'isis583848' last month.
Earlier known as the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIS), the organisation which follows a radical interpretation of Islam, later renamed itself as Islamic State and is waging a war to form what it calls an Islamic caliphate.
The organisation is known for its gruesome videos showing murder of captives and its presumed enemies.
The paper said quoting police sources that the email account "was being accessed from 10 different countries" including Australia, Italy, US, Nigeria, Poland, Germany, Hong Kong and Ukraine.
"I have been given money by somebody to eliminate you. If you will pay me more than I have been paid, then we can decide on it," the newspaper quoted the mail as saying.
Mumbai police commissioner Rakesh Maria, who confirmed the development, said, "We have received a complaint that a threat email was sent to the RBI governor. The e-mail also contained the name of ISIS. We are not taking this lightly and all efforts are being made to trace the culprits."

{{/usCountry}}The report also said after police were alerted about the e-mail by RBI officials, the cyber crime investigation cell of Mumbai police "immediately got on to the job".
