Pakistan on Tuesday approached UN military observer group, charging India with ceasefire violation. It was a day after it lodged a protest with India on alleged ceasefire violations along the border.
Pakistan recorded protest at United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) office in Islamabad on the LoC situation, Pakistan high commission spokesperson said.
India has maintained that UNMOGIP has “outlived its relevance” and has “no role to play whatsoever and all disputes should be discussed under the bilateral frameworks of Shimla agreement and Lahore declaration.”
UNMOGIP, established under a UN Security Council Resolution, was meant to supervise the ceasefire line established under the Karachi Agreement of July 1949.
“The Government has lodged strong protest with the Government of India through diplomatic channels and called for restraining its forces from constant violation of the ceasefire”, a statement from Pakistan foreign office said on Monday.
However, top officials in the ministry of home affairs suspect Pakistan is also trying to push intruders by providing them cover firing.
“Last night also, the BSF gave the Pakistanis more than adequate response. The force fully prepared to take on Pakistani aggression again. As per media reports in Pakistan, so 13 people have died and 16 others injured there in the retaliatory fire of the BSF,” said a home ministry official requesting anonymity.

{{/usCountry}}In all more than 40 BSF outposts in Jammu sector have come under heavy shelling from Pakistani side. In 2014, more than 125 ceasefire violations have been reported from Pakistani side.
