IT firms step up security on campuses

S. Gopalakrishnan, CEO and Managing Director of Infosys, sent an e-mail to his colleagues about improved security at the workplace and requested them to remain “security conscious”. He assured them that the attacks had not dislocated the company’s operations and that no Infosys employee had been injured in the ongoing battle in Mumbai.

TV Mohandas Pai, Infosys Board member and head of HR, told HT that security arrangements had been stepped up. “Yes, we have done it in all our campuses.” Laxman Badiga, Chief Information Officer, Wipro, said: “All our employees and clients in Mumbai are safe. We have increased our security arrangements and vigilance across facilities in India.”

Similarly, the sprawling Electronics City, home to several global software majors and telecom firms, witnessed intensive patrolling by private security guards. Col. Sadanand Nayak, head of the security wing, Electronics City, said. “We interact with the city police at regular intervals, and the next meeting on security is scheduled next week,” he said.

Others such as Microsoft India and Dell have advised their employees in Mumbai to “place their personal safety on priority” and work from home.

The government has directed the district administration to take pre-cautionary measures and keep vigil on all sensitive installations, on the coast and national highways.
