THE SUN has never been so bright on the first day of a new year for at least past five years. And the sun’s rays drew more people out on the first day’s noon of 2006 that’s what the high pitch music or bottles of Vodka could do on the eve of 2005.

It looked as if the entire city was out of their homes and it’s first statistical confirmation comes form the Lucknow Zoological Gardens.
The zoo experienced its highest number of visitors in a single day ever.

There was no dearth of crowd on outing anywhere in the city, if zoo took a share of 27,600, then situation at the city malls was equally unprecedented. Sahara Ganj had been attracting crowd since it opened, and it attracted a massive crowd on all the holidays or festive days. But Sunday afternoon saw people queued up like that had never happened before.

There was no public place or park in the city that was not teeming with people in joyous mood.

Coming back to the zoo’s statistics, HT Live found out that the zoo became richer by Rs 2.8 lakh, thanks to the record number of visitors (27,600) that flocked the city zoo on bright sunny day on Sunday. Never in the history of this zoo such a large number of people ever visited this place. In all 23,000 adults and 4600 children converged at city zoo.

Says zoo director Eva Sharma: “We never expected such a big turn out. Normally the sale of tickets goes up during this part of the year. But, this year’s turn out stands apart. Over 27,000 people frequenting the zoo in a day was mind blowing. The bright sunny weather has also played a big role as people came out from their houses as the weather was just warm.” Several arguments are put forth for this large number of visitors.

According to a zoo staff the several new development work that was carried out during the end of last year has attracted people’s attention.

“And with January 1 falling on Sunday, people went for outing and hence such record turnouts,” he said hoping that zoo might get richer even further in the days to come.
