Former cricketer Mohinder Amarnath questioned Sachin Tendulkar's place in the Indian team after repeated failures and said he needs to deliver consistently to retain his place in the playing XI.
"He has contributed immensely for Indian cricket but he needs to deliver to keep his place in the team," Amarnath said.
"If you want your place in the team you have to be consistent with your performance. Cricket is bigger than any player, no matter how great a player you are," Amarnath told 'IBN 7' television channel on Wednesday.
The former India Test player said Sachin was looking for an excuse or blaming the pitch everytime he got out. "Off late it is becoming his habit to gesticulate after his dismissal and this attitude will not send right signals to the youngsters in the team," Amarnath said.
Prasun elected CAB chief
KOLKATA: Kolkata Police Commissioner Prasun Mukherjee was on Wednesday elected unopposed as the president of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) in the absence of any other candidate. Mukherjee, the first bureaucrat to be elected to the top CAB post and with the only valid nomination for the post, was elected unopposed, CAB Secretary Saradindu Pal told a press conference on the last day of filing nomination on Wednesday evening.
Formal declaration of Mukherjee's election would be made at the CAB's Special General Meeting (SGM) on February 1, Pal said. "Since there was no other candidate, formalities like scrutiny, were all done today itself," he said. There was no contest for the post following the decision of Sports Minister Subhas Chakraborty not to be a contender at the direction of CPI (M).

Bhubaneswar: Orissa Director General of Police Amaranand Patnaik on Wednesday submitted an inquiry report to the Orrisa state government on the Chappell assault incident. State Home Secretary TK Mishra told HT that the the report was a confidential one and would be revealed later.
