It's modernisation, not privatisation: FM

The minister opposed the strike, saying that talks with the Left have been completed and they know their stand.

Union Finance minister P Chidambaram has said that the Delhi and Mumbai airports are being 'modernised' and not `privatised', as termed by the striking Airport Authority of India employees.

"Final decision regarding the same has been taken. What is going on in Mumbai and Delhi is modernisation," he said.

"We have explained the Government's stand on the airports to the Left party leaders including CPI(M) politburo member Sitaram Yachuri. Our talks with the Left have been completed and they know our stand."

Of his experience at the World Economic Forum at Davos, he said many foreign companies were now showing interest in setting up units in India. Next to China, India was their focus, he added.
