IT IS Sonia Gandhi all the way in Rae Bareli.
She reminds people of the five-generation link of the Nehru-Gandhi family with people here. And they raise slogans in her favour.
Soon, she establishes a direct rapport with people, telling them how she is concerned about their welfare and is keen on a bright future for the next generation.
She makes a specific reference to women, realising that they play an important role. She tells them to ensure that all the votes in their family are polled and the women nod in the affirmative.
“I am a woman, a mother and ‘naani’ too,” she tells them. As she mentions her ‘nani’ status, the crowd responds emotionally.
When she moves ahead, large crowds can be seen waiting for her all along the way. She meets them, receives their petitions and moves ahead once again.
She promises to take care of the next generation in the same manner in which people of the constituency have treated Rahul and Priyanka.
“Aapne meri beti ko apni beti mana. Mere bete ko apnaya. (You treated Priyanka as your own daughter. You treated Rahul your own),” she says. Her remarks are greeted with thunderous applause.

At most places posters carrying pictures of Feroze Gandhi, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv, Rahul and Priyanka are displayed.
Rahul has been camping in the constituency for the last nine days. He has been focusing on the development of the constituency.
