Perhaps it was no irony that the ancient city of Varanasi, the city of teeming ghats and labyrinthine lanes, where millions congregate on pious evenings by the Ganga, one of the most recognised markers of modern entertainment did not exist. But that is going to change, for the oldest living city in the world would soon boast of its first discotheque.
“Agni will be the first discotheque of perhaps the entire Purvanchal, Bihar and Jharkhand. Here, revelers would get a chance to dance to the tunes of electrifying music belted out by a Delhi-based DJ,” said Neeraj Singh, the man behind the discotheque.
The disco would be housed in Hotel Siddharth and would be open to visitors from 5 to 11 in the evening, seven days a week, said Singh, who also owns Hotel Siddharth. Tipped to be a hot spot for teenyboppers, Agni is likely to be inaugurated by the charismatic Bollywood couple Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan in a few days from now.
Varanasi’s first disc will boast of state-of-the art sound and light systems and it wants to emerge as the preferred hangout, party and leisure destination for both the young local crowd as well as the foreigners.
