Italian polling stations opened at 7:00 am on Monday for the second and final day of voting in the country's hard-fought general election.

Voting was scheduled to end at 3:00 pm.

Two thirds of the electorate had already cast their vote by 10:00 pm on Sunday, when polling booths closed for the night.
