Describing Sunday's terror attack at a Congress rally in Srinagar as an attempt to derail the ongoing peace process, Home Minister Shivraj Patil said that such incidents would not deter the government from pursuing the goal of lasting peace in Jammu and Kashmir.
"The attack is an attempt to derail the ongoing peace process in Jammu and Kashmir", he said.
Patil, who was attending a function in Bangalore, said that "such attacks would not deter the government from pursuing the goal of lasting peace and progress in J&K".
The attack has come just ahead of the Prime Minister's visit to Srinagar scheduled for May 24 to attend the round table conference with Kashmiri groups and individuals.
The first round table conference was held in Delhi.
The Home Minister said "such attacks on innocent people would only fuel the anger of the people against militants and hasten the process of their marginalisation".
Home Ministry sources said that Patil was rushing back to New Delhi in the wake of the terror strike.
The Home Minister is in constant touch with the state government and is keeping a close watch on the situation, the spokesman added.
