J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah decided not to attend scheduled Unified Command Meeting on Friday without putting forth any reason.
The Unified Command Meeting was slated for 6 pm where the heads of the army, police and paramilitary were supposed to apprise the Chief Minister of the prevailing situation. Chief Minister Abdullah also heads Unified Command Meeting in Kashmir.
Sources close to the Chief Minister’s office told the
Hindustan Times
that Abdullah decided not to attend the meeting in the wake of four killings in police and security forces firing in north Kashmir, where scores of protesters received bullet injuries.
The decision not to attend the meeting might pit the beleaguered Chief Minister against the security apparatus. The CM’s move not to attend the meeting reflects he was not happy with the functioning of the security forces and their approach to control the protesters. But, at the same time, the move makes the Chief Minister admit that he has no control over security forces or they were not abiding by the directions of the civil administration in the state.
