Ten days after Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi, his condition remains critical.
However, doctors treating Sayeed say his condition is stable though given his age pneumonia is a cause for concern.
79-year-old Sayeed was airlifted from Srinagar, Kashmir, on December 24 and admitted in the intensive care unit of the hospital.
“Mr Sayeed continues to remain critical but stable, as his vital parameters such as blood pressure, respiratory and heart rate are stable. He is conscious, alert and is eating properly,” said a senior doctor requesting anonymity.
Sayeed was admitted with complains of fever and neck pain, and during his blood tests at AIIMS, he was found to have low blood count and infection. He was put on broad spectrum antibiotics and anti-fungal medicines.
He also has a previous history of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), which is a progressive incurable disease that leads to severe difficulty in breathing.
As he has complained of finding it difficult to breathe, doctors have put him on oxygen therapy. “He isn’t on ventilator but is being prvided with oxygen to help ease breathing,” the doctors say.
He was also given a blood transfusion after his platelets fell considerably.
