Hardline Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani, arrested in connection with cases relating to "inciting communalism and working against the country", was on Friday granted bail by a Poonch court on health grounds.
Interestingly, Geelani in his bail application had stated that he had respect for the law which the judge took into consideration.
The judge of the District and Session Court AK Shan granted bail to Geelani on health grounds as he is fitted with a pacemaker and has some kidney trouble.
Geelani was also asked to furnish surety bonds of Rs 50,000 each in all the three cases.
The Hurriyat leader was arrested on Wednesday when he was heading towards Poonch in connection with public rallies in Surankote, Mendhar.
Police later produced Geelani in court in connection with cases of inciting communalism, fundamentalism and working against the country.
The court sent him to three weeks judicial custody till June 29.
However, Geelani, who produced documents in connection with his ill health, was shifted to district jail Kotbalwal (Jammu) on Wednesday on the direction of the court.
Three cases under sections 153-A, 147 RPC and 120-B IPC were registered against him in the police station of Mendhar, Surankote and Mandi areas of Poonch district in 2001.

Geelani is likely to be released by this evening after bail documents are delivered to jail authorities.
