J&K Police, NEAF team scale Kohli peak heights

A joint team of Jammu and Kashmir Police and mountaineers of North-East Adventure Foundation scaled 17,770 feet Kohli peak on August 12-13, 2009. The joint team comprised 17 members of J&K Police and 20 members from North-East.

Director General of Police Kuldeep Khoda and IGP (armed) Dilbag Singh on Sunday greeted the team for creating history.

J&K team was led by Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering and Winter Sports, Nunwan Pahalgam. The team members include SI Ram Singh, (Everester), SI, T Namgyal, Hav. Sajjad Haider(Everester), Havaldar Mohammad Irshad, Constables, Failail Singh, Ram Lal, Irshad Ahmad Mughal, Tariq Hussain, Nasir Ahmad, T Dorjee, T Jigmet, Mohammad Mussa, Bhushan Kumar, Harish Kotwal, Vikram Singh, Mohinder Kumar and Kamal Kumar.

The expedition started on August 4, 2009 and after proper acclimatization advance base camp was established at 14000 ft on the base of Kohli Glacier on August 7. As there was no record of the route to be followed for expedition, team leader constituted two teams for recee from north and south wings of the glacier. The team submitted the report on August 9, 2009, after which the route was finalised and location for summit camp-I was earmarked.
