Talks between Jammu and Kashmir government and employees' unions to resolve the issue of payment of arrears on account of the Sixth Pay Commission have failed with the latter threatening to go ahead with their three-day strike from Tuesday.
"Government is aware of our demands and there was nothing new from them to offer," Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC) leader Abdul Qayoom Wani said about the talks, which were held here last evening.
Wani said they will go ahead with the three-day strike from September 6.
A union leader, who was part of negotiations with the government delegation led by state Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather, said the government wanted more time on the issue.
Rather has invited the employees for a discussion with a cabinet sub-committee, an official spokesman said. He has offered to revisit the road map for payment of the arrears in consultation with employees' representatives if they suspend the proposed strike and come to the dialogue table.
"All their genuine demands have always been considered and our doors and minds are open to addressing all issues," Rather said.

{{/usCountry}}The government had earlier announced that it would pay the arrears in a phased manner spreading over five years, which was rejected by the unions.
The employees are also demanding enhancement of retirement age to 60 years.
