The photograph, which was shared on social networking site Facebook, showed Basheer Ahmed Bhat, who works at Government Primary School, on a chair with his trousers rolled up. The two students, sitting on the ground, are seen stroking his legs.

Bhat was suspended after a team of the education department visited the school to inquire into the incident.

Taking cognisance of the matter, the directorate of education ordered a departmental inquiry into the incident. “We have formed two teams to investigate the charges against him,” chief education officer (Anantnag) Ghulam Rasool Shah said.

He said the inquiry officers had been asked to submit their report within two days.

Zonal education officer Muhammad Abdullah Rather confirmed the incident.

Angry locals had uploaded the photograph after it was alleged that the teacher had been doing this for long.

Villagers said the teacher used to force schoolchildren to do his personal chores and even made them wash his car. They demanded strict action against Bhat.
