J&K winter secretariat to be functional from tomorrow

J&K CM Abdullah has given instructions to start the functioning of the secretariat in Srinagar from tomorrow after the Govt began working from Jammu.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has given instructions to start the functioning of the secretariat in Srinagar from Tuesday after the government began working from Jammu, its winter capital. Omar's instructions came after people complained of facing immense difficulties in reaching Jammu to get their grievances redressed.

The Srinagar-Jammu highway remains closed in winter due to heavy snowfall.

The winter secretariat will start working from tomorrow in the Valley to monitor the functioning of administration besides addressing civic problems confronting the people in the region, official sources said.

The secretariat would be supervised by cabinet ministers on a rotational basis. For this, each minister will stay in the Valley for a week.

Cabinet minister for rural development and panchayati raj Ali Muhammad Sagar will be supervising the functioning of the secretariat from Tuesday, the sources added. The chief minister will himself visit the Valley periodically.
