The angry mobs set fire to police vehicles and also damaged a police post in Makwal, about 30 kms northwest of Jammu on Saturday afternoon.

Twentythree-year-old Soni Kumar was summoned to the police post for questioning over a feud with his neighbours. His body was handed over to his family after a couple of hours.

While the police maintained that the man died from natural cause, villagers claimed foul play claiming that the police tortured him to death.

Senior police officers have rushed to the spot.

Local MLA and National Conference provincial president Ajay Sadhotra demanded a judicial probe into the killing.

The incident comes close on the heels of the killing of a youth in Rajouri two days ago.
