The Selection Committee chairman Kiran More on Monday drew flak from former India cricketer Ajay Jadeja for his statement that the doors are shut for former captain Sourav Ganguly's return to national squad.
"Before making his stand public that the former skipper did not fit in the schemes of things, More should have shown respect for Ganguly's contributions as a player and a captain during a distinguished career spanning over a decade," Jadeda said.
He felt only the performance and fitness of any player should be the basis of his selection to the national team.
"In any case, the performance and fitness of a player should be the criterion for his selection and not any other considerations, including the age of the player or external considerations," the Rajasthan captain said.
Jadeja, who captained the national team in a few one-day matches in the late 1990s, lauded BCCI's proposed move to give a pension of Rs 25,000 to each of the retired cricketers and said such schemes would come in handy to the retired and aged cricketers to meet their needs.
"The former cricketers had played in the era when there was little money in domestic and international cricket and therefore, the proposed pension would cater to their needs," Jadeja added.
