The Joint Action Forum of RWAs (Jafra) has become the first organisation to release its election manifesto and a list of 10 probable candidates for the forthcoming elections of the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) to be held on May 15.
The 20-point manifesto announced on Sunday promises to establish Jafra sub-offices in each MCG ward that will be open round-the-clock. Their main agenda is to ensure a single window redressal system, assert moral and social pressure on authorities concerned through a peoples’ movement to take up new projects.
Focusing on better civic amenities, the residents' body will ensure proper supply of basic requirements such as water and electricity. The organisation has also assured proper maintenance and repairs of roads and sewerage lines.
Ratan Singh, Jafra chairman, said they would back candidates with a clean image in all 35 wards. “So far, 23 vigilant residents, who are Jafra members, have applied for the post of councillors in the municipal elections. We will issue the final list on May 4,” he said.
Singh said that Gurgaon was fast heading towards “total self-destruction”.

{{/usCountry}}“We, the people of Gurgaon, must arrest and reverse this downward trend. Corruption, inefficiency and nepotism have reached their peak. The last and only hope therefore, lies in bringing forward honest, committed, dedicated and capable persons in the municipal corporation.”
Interestingly, none of the Jafra executive body and selection committee members are contesting the elections.
The 10 probable contestants include three women — Pooja Singh from ward no 9, Pavneet Gill from Ward 34 and Amita Yadava from Ward 30. The last two wards are reserved for women candidates. Other candidates are OP Sharma from ward 2; Col RC Chadha (ward 17), Mahavir Yadav (ward 15), Sanjay Pradhan (ward 9), Rajinder Kumar (ward 26), BD Pahuja (ward 17) and Capt Ram Pal (ward 32).
