‘Der hui aane main tunko, shukr hai phir bhi aaye to’. Jagjit Singh could not have struck a truer note than this as the ghazal evening got under way more then two hours behind the scheduled time of 7.30 pm.
Singh however more than made up for the delay by enthralling the audience with his silken voice during the two-hour-long concert that had the crowd asking for more.
Apart from the regular favourites, the Padma Bhushan singer also mesmerised the audience with few numbers from his forthcoming album.
The concert held at St Paul Higher Secondary grounds, was managed by National School of Events and presented by Symphony.
PWD minister Kailash Vijayvargiya and Congress MLA Ashish Joshi were among the 10,000-odd listeners gathered at the venue. The audience comprising both the well-heeled and the down at heel proved that Singh’s popularity continues to cut across various strata of the society.
Although a large number of seats were vacant, hundreds of pass holders queued up outside the venue entrance, as they were not allowed entry after the programme began.
